The magical and mysterious ritual of the Carnival has survived for centuries in the histories of man as liberating, propitious, a moment of amusement. In Venice this reoccurrence has taken on the dimensions of a city wide Opera, a re-enactment of the pomp and of the tolerant power of Serenissima Venezia.
Social differences were rendered invisible by the use of masks and costumes, making everyone an actor in a surreal utopian like world of a perfect society where the roles were not defined by birth and parental status, but desired, chosen and interpreted depending on the wish of the individual, desires often un-confessable in everyday life.
Il Ballo del Doges has been for the last 12 years the most perfect expression and continuation of this philosophy.
The first edition was born out of the needs of a television documentary, but immediately Antonia understood the power of suggestion of Ill Ballo, organised to the final detail, prepared with passion and love, could set in motion an event with incredible results.
